Recreation League Info and FAQs

The goal of Cherry Hill Soccer Club’s Recreation League is to give each player the opportunity to develop a solid foundation of soccer skills while playing in a fun environment. In the Spring and Fall seasons children are placed on teams in the following Divisions determined by the player's birth year.  The player's age group for the soccer year is calculated by subtracting the player's birth year from the year of the soccer year fall and spring seasons.

Boys and Girls are combined (coed) in the U4 Tot and U5 Mighty Mite Divisions.  Boys and Girls are separated in all the other Divisions.

CHSC will follow the age group playing guidelines recently mandated by USSF as follows (subject to change at the discretion of the club's board of directors):

U4 Tots thru U7 Minis will play 4v4 with no goalies.
U8 thru U10 will play 7v7
U11/U12 will play 9v9
U13 and older play 11v11.

Coaches typically run 1 to 2 practices a week, at this time, children are taught soccer skills through fun games. Over the course of each season, children play at least 6 small-sided games. With small-sided games, each player gets to participate fully in the game and children are able to maximize their number of touches on the ball.

Each child will receive a ball (Fall season only unless player did not play in the fall), team jersey, socks and participation award. Parents must provide soccer cleats, shin guards and shorts.

We need your help!!! Volunteers are needed for coaching, field maintenance and other activities during the season.  Please volunteer to help when registering your child or when coaches ask!

Cherry Hill Soccer Club FAQ

Registration and timing

When does the spring season start?
For Spring 2026 recreation, practices begin the week of March 9 and games start March 14.

When will I receive my child’s team information and coach contact?
The goal is for families to receive details 1-2 weeks before the start of the season, after teams and coaches are finalized. Once enough coaches are secured and rosters are assigned, the coach reaches out directly to families with schedule details.

What equipment does my child need to play?
Players should come to games with Soccer Cleats, Shin Guards, and a water bottle. New players will receive a ball once per year. All players are supplied a uniform top and socks each season with the program fee.

Is registration still open?
Registration may still be open depending on the division, but you may be directed to a waitlist once the season is close to starting or already underway.  Registration is typically closed +1 week after the start of the season.

Can my child still join after the season has started?
Possibly. You can join the waitlist, and the club will check with the age group coordinator for available space.  There is a $10 program fee penalty for late registrations (post season start).

When does registration close?
1 week before opening day and then players will be placed on the waitlist.  Late fee of $10 for anyone that registers / waitlist after registration deadline.

How do I register?

  • Go to www.cherryhillsoccer.com

  • Click Register/Login

  • Create or access the account

  • Choose Programs Available next to the child’s name

  • Select the program with RECREATION in the name.

Program structure

What does the recreation program schedule usually look like?
Recreation teams typically practice one evening per week and play one game on the weekend. Some divisions may also have a second practice or group training night.

How many games are included?
Typically 8 weeks games.  Games are played on Saturdays, occasional Friday or Sunday depending on field availability.

Are practices and games indoor or outdoor?
Practices are all outdoors at either Croft Farm Fields, Bortons Mills Trails Park, Carusi Middle School, or Cherry Hill West High School

Are there makeup sessions for missed practices or games?
Teams are led by parent volunteer coaches, there are no makeup games or training sessions for players who miss a practice or game. If there are game cancellations due to weather, coaches will aim to reschedule the game at a mutual time.

Age groups and eligibility

Which age group should my child register for?
The system automatically shows you the age group you are eligible for when clicking "Programs Available"

Do you have recreation options for older players, such as age 14?
9th Grade is the oldest age (7th-9th grade play as one division)

My child is 3 or 4 years old. What should I expect?

  • Practice dates - once per week - parent led

  • Location - Croft Farm Fields

  • The format is comparable to Soccer Shots / Tot Soccer or similar programs: 5v5 on small sided field, no goal keeper, coaches allowed on field with players to help.  Emphasis on fun and learning the rules.

Team placement and requests

Can my child be placed with a sibling?
If requested, we do our very best to keep age level siblings together to make it easier on parents.

Can my child play up an age group?
This is considered upon request and reviewed / approved by the Recreation Program directors to make sure it is safe to do so.

Can I request my child be placed with a friend or specific coach?
Yes, the club will do its best to accommodate requests, but there is no guarantee.

Can I request a team change after teams are assigned?
This would need to be reviewed by board / recreation directors and only employed for extraordinary circumstances.
